Liverpool duo and Bukayo Saka among 8 players nominated for Premier League POTY award

Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold are among the eight nominees for the Premier League Player of the Year award.

Liverpool and Manchester City have, once again, been the two outstanding teams in England's top flight and they provide four of the eight nominees with Joao Cancelo also in with a shout. Salah is currently on course to win the Golden Boot following a sensational year, especially in the first half of the season.

The Egyptian recently claimed the FWA Footballer of the Year award and is targeting another individual accolade. De Bruyne, meanwhile, has been named the PFA Player of the Year for the past two seasons. He has enjoyed his best goalscoring season to date, notching four times against Wolves in midweek.

Alexander-Arnold and Cancelo have continued to raise the bar for full-backs this term, regularly being utilised as potent attacking weapons. Meanwhile North London has two representatives in the final eight - one from Arsenal and one from Tottenham.

Bukayo Saka has continued to grow in stature at the Emirates with the Gunners targeting the final top four spot. The academy graduate's versatility is a major plus but he has more often been used as a forward option, scoring 12 times this term, which has seen him picked out as a potential winner.

Tottenham's Son Heung-min notched in his side's north London derby win on Thursday night and is also on the list of nominees. He is on course to outscore teammate Harry Kane and could yet pip Salah to the Golden Boot. The South Korean has often been overlooked for individual awards but is now in the hunt.

West Ham United's season has tailed off somewhat but they had been in the top four race for much of the campaign. Europa League commitments proved a distraction but Jarrod Bowen has been among their leading lights this term and is another of those nominated.

The winger's form has seen him linked with a switch to Liverpool as the Hammers stars has racked up 10 goals and 10 assists. Southampton's James Ward-Prowse is the final man to make the shortlist as he continues to be a star for the Saints. His free-kick exploits have continued to see him praised. Pep Guardiola told the BBC earlier this season: "They have the best free-kick taker I have seen in my life in [James] Ward-Prowse."
