Liverpool draw Atletico Madrid in Champions League last 16

Liverpool face a mouthwatering tie against Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The draw in Nyon has handed Jurgen Klopp a return to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium where they lifted the European Cup last season.

It represents a tricky tie for the Reds but a clearly happy hunting ground having won the tournament there in June.

Liverpool and Ateltico haven't met in competitive action since the 2010 Europa League semi-final when Diego Forlan struck an extra-time away goal to end Liverpool's hopes in the competition during a 2-1 second-leg win for Rafa Bentiez's then side.

Klopp's men will have home advantage for the second leg with the trip to Spain coming first.

The first leg will be played on February 18, with the second leg on March 11.

Ateltico have endured a difficult season so far with Diego Simeone at the helm. They currently fifth third in La Liga - six points behind leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid who both have a game in hand.

Liverpool finished as winners in Group E after a solid final game and a 2-0 win away to Salzburg.
