Liverpool dog business gets stamp of approval from former Dragon's Den star

A local business that sells baked goods suitable for dogs has been praised by a former Dragon's Den star.

Theo Paphitis has given his stamp of approval to Celia McDonald's Liverpool based business.

Celia was inspired to start ‘For Dogs Sake Treats’ after her own dog, Bella, was ill from shop bought food.

She says her miniature Goldendoodle, started to vomit blood and had to be taken to an emergency out of hours vets when she was 18 months old.

Bella had to stay in for several days and after multiple tests, they found out she had Irritable Bowel Disorder.

The 53-year-old previously told TeamDogs : “After several tests they came back saying she had IBD. As well as medication, they suggested trying grain free and sensitive dog food.

"We felt desperate and tried so many types, but through research and recommendation none made her better, the cost factor went completely out of the window.”

Later she learned from the vet it was something in the shop bought foods that continued to make Bella sick. However, the process to find out what exactly was a long and expensive route to take.

Instead, the former rehabilitation officer for the blind decided to take matters into her own hands and make her own raw diet food which recently caught the attention of Theo during one of his Twitter events.

The retail magnate chose Celia's venture to join his small business network and now she hopes with him behind her she'll be able to sell even more products.

She explained: "It is great to have support from Theo because it’s been tough trying to raise our profile.

"During the pandemic it was a struggle as a small business trying to get baking supplies, or working from home with the entire family trying to study and work there too, or not being able to hand deliver.

"Theo has recognised our hard work and helped spread the word about what we do, on to his following."

Made with fresh ingredients, zero artificial colouring, flavouring or preservatives, Celia's goods are available for delivery or collection across Merseyside.

Her peanut butter and fish cakes are in high demand but hopes this year her Christmas orders sell out as for purchase made, the former fully qualified architect will donate £1 to Carla Lane Animal Rescue Centre.
