Liverpool display branded 'pathetic' as pundit fears history is repeating itself for Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool’s display against Brighton & Hove Albion in a result that condemned them to consecutive home defeats has been branded “pathetic”.

The Reds shock 1-0 loss left the defending Premier League champions in fourth place in the table and seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City – who also have a game in hand – ahead of Sunday’s showdown between the sides at Anfield.

A former Premier League player believes that Liverpool’s current struggles mirror the situation that manager Jurgen Klopp faced towards the end of his reign at previous club Borussia Dortmund.

HITC quote Jason Cundy as telling talkSPORT : “I’m still not convinced Liverpool are back to where they were.

“Looking at this result here tells you they’re not firing.

“That was pathetic from Liverpool, let’s call it as it is. That was pathetic.

“They’re up against a side, credit to Brighton on the back of a good, well-deserved win against Spurs – Spurs were pathetic – but that’s the defending champions you’ve just watched there.

“A whimper. Disgraceful. Shocking.”

Former defender Cundy, who had spells in the top flight with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, added: “And you know what, history might be repeating itself, because you look back at what Klopp did at (Borussia) Dortmund when he finished second, how their season imploded.

“And this is something that has happened with Klopp before when he was in Germany. He demands so much, and his demands have been brilliant, but are we looking at a Liverpool side now that have just run out of gas?

“Because that is not the Liverpool I know. That’s not the Klopp Liverpool that we have seen over the last three seasons.

“No chance of them winning the title now.

“Let’s have it right now about Klopp. We’ve given him praise. That is a disgrace.”
