Liverpool discover when they will lift Premier League trophy after title triumph

Liverpool will hoist their Premier League trophy aloft against Chelsea, in their final home game of the season.

But they will have to wait a little longer to show it to their fans in person, with Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson promising a spectacular parade “when it is safe and possible to do so.”

Anderson is an Everton fan, but he insisted he would “drive the victory bus myself, if it was safe to have a parade today.”

Instead, he has vowed to deliver on the ambitions of Liverpool football club to stage a parade when the time is right, and he added: “We want to mark this huge moment for the city and its people.

“It is well known that I support the other team in this city, but first and foremost I am a Scouser, and on behalf of the city I offer my whole hearted congratulations and thanks to Liverpool Football Club.

“Not only have they won the Premiership by playing brilliant football, but they have also done it in a way which is a credit to the values of this city - pride, togetherness and integrity.”

Jurgen Klopp has insisted he is happy to stage the parade around the city - which will bring in excess of a million fans to the waterfront of Liverpool - even if it has to take place midway through next season.

But at least there are plans to lift the trophy at Anfield, with the FA confirming there will be a presentation after the game against Chelsea on July 18, their penultimate game of the season.

And the local council has also promised some ways of celebrating within the city without crowds, with including famous landmarks lit up in red…though not the iconic Liver Buildings, which happened to be owned by Everton!
