Liverpool discover transfer deadline to activate Timo Werner release clause

Liverpool reportedly have until the end of April to take advantage of Timo Werner's release clause.

The Reds are said to be 'serious' about making a move for RB Leipzig forward Werner and even made contact with the club in the January transfer window.

The German international has a release clause of £50million to £55million depending on Leipzig's success which Liverpool have reportedly come close to triggering.

But, according to Bild, they could be rushed into a move as they only have until the end of April to activate the release clause.

They are aware that Werner is in-demand with his 20 goals in 21 Bundesliga matches this season seeing him touted as a target for top clubs.

Liverpool have a good relationship with RB Leipzig which could boost their chances of landing the 23-year-old, with European football expert Kevin Hatchard believing they have the best chance.

“They’re talking about the top end of €60million,” Hatchard told Hawskbee and Jacobs on TalkSport.

“So, for me, for a player of his quality and experience, bearing in mind this is a guy who is in his early to mid-20s and he has played over 200 games in the Bundesliga.

“So vastly experienced already, improving all the time, I think he has really benefited from playing under [RB Leipzig boss] Julien Nagelsmann because he played as an out-and-out striker for pretty much his whole career.

“Nagelsmann has said to him, ‘Look I think you can be much more dangerous playing from a deeper role’.

"So he has almost been playing as an attacking midfielder at times – kind of driving past defences with his pace.

“So he is improving and I think he would do very well in the Premier League.

"He has said on numerous occasions he thinks the Premier League is an exciting prospect and some pretty reliable German media sources are saying that Liverpool are very much one of the clubs who want to sign him and he is keen.

“Now he was very strongly linked with Bayern for a long time, that seems to have gone away.

"He didn’t push for a move to Bayern and Bayern seemed to have lost interest.

“So I think Liverpool certainly would be very, very prominent in that race to sign him.”
