The draw which took place on Monday afternoon in Zurich saw Jurgen Klopp's side pitted against either Qatar-based club Al Sadd, New Calendonia side Hienghene Sport or Mexican outfit Monterrey.

Monterrey face the winners of Al Sadd vs Hienghene Sport, before facing off to earn the right to play European champions Liverpool.

The Merseyside club qualified for the competition after winning the Champions League last season, and are set to travel to Qatar to compete this December.

Their Premier League match at West Ham United in December has been postponed, with Liverpool set to meet the Hammers at the London Stadium on December 21.

However, the contest will be rescheduled, the Premier League have confirmed, because of the club’s involvement in the FIFA competition.

The FIFA Club World Cup will take place between December 11 and 21, with Klopp’s side entering at the semi-final stage on December 18.

The last time Liverpool entered the competition in 2005, they finished as runners-up to Sao Paolo after being beaten 1-0.

Klopp will be desperate to win the competition for the first time in the club's history and be officially crowned the best club team in the world.
