Liverpool deserve a trophy for finishing in the Champions League qualification places after the challenges they faced this season says a former Manchester United player.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had to cope with a number of issues both on and off the pitch including a series of long-term injuries, particularly in the centre-back department.
The defending Premier League champions were down in eighth place in early March but ended the campaign with a 10-match unbeaten run, winning the last five, to finish third.
Ex-Australia goalkeeper Mark Bosnich was particularly impressed with Liverpool’s form in the run-in and told Sky Sports : “There was no doubt they had it in them but when they lost Virgil van Dijk it was always going to be an uphill battle.
“Not having the home crowd has probably hit them as hard as anyone as everyone who has played at Anfield knows what an intimidating atmosphere that the Liverpool supporters provide and what a great support it is for the side.
“It's been a monumental effort you have to say considering all the problems that they've had throughout the season, to get into the top four.
“Like I said last week though, when your goalkeeper scores a header in the last minute when you're drawing as well, you kind of think that these things were written in the stars well before the weekend, there was no question in my opinion that they were going to qualify.
“I know they don't get a trophy per se but they deserve one because the form that they've shown and the effort that they've made to get into the top four is a real tribute to Jurgen Klopp, his coaching staff and his men because it's not been easy.”
