Liverpool delaying pre-season return as football community grieves Jota death

  • Liverpool Football Club has cancelled the phased return of players for pre-season training following the death of forward Diogo Jota.
  • Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva were tragically killed in a car crash in Spain on Thursday.
  • The club has postponed the initial physical tests for Arne Slot’s squad and is providing support to Jota’s family.
  • Tributes have poured in from Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, teammates, and former manager Jurgen Klopp.
  • Liverpool has opened a book of condolence, lowered flags to half-mast, and suspended many club operations, while fans have created makeshift shrines at Anfield and Molineux.
