Liverpool defender wanted by Champions League winner

Forgotten Liverpool man Anderson Arroyo could be set to link up with a Reds' Champions League winner.

The Anfield side have been contacted by Portuguese side Tondela over a season-long loan for Arroyo, who moved to Merseyside in January 2018 from Fortaleza in his home country of Colombia.

Pako Ayesteran, assistant to Rafa Benitez when Liverpool won the European Cup in 2005, has recently been appointed head coach at top-flight outfit Tondela.

Arroyo has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Reds due to work permit issues.

A loan spell at Mallorca in 2018 was cut short after six months and the defender failed to play a single minute of senior football during a subsequent season-long spell in Belgium with Genk.

The 20-year-old spent last term at Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic and finally made his top-flight bow in May with two substitute appearances totalling 17 minutes.

Liverpool opted to pursue a deal for Arroyo after he impressed during a trial at the Academy in Kirkby, with the player having shot to prominence during the 2017 Under-20s South American Youth Championships.

He was later part of the Colombian side beaten by Ukraine in the quarter-finals of the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland.
