Liverpool defender rejoins former club as loan move agreed

Sepp van den Berg has rejoined Preston North End on a season-long loan from Liverpool after spending the second half of last year at Deepdale.

The Dutchman joined the Lilywhites on a temporary basis in February and impressed in the Championship, making 16 appearances in an unfamiliar right-back position as Preston finished 13th in the table.

When speaking exclusively to the ECHO, the 19-year-old confirmed he would look to leave the Reds on loan once again this summer and was interested in a return to Deepdale.

And now Van den Berg has been granted his wish and will spend the full 2021/22 campaign with Frankie McAvoy’s side.

Speaking following completion of the deal, the defender said: “I’m very pleased.

"I said it last season at the end that I would love to come back and I was really happy it worked out. I’m just looking forward to playing a whole season now and playing from the start.

“Hopefully I’ll see the fans very soon and of course see the players and the staff again.

"I really enjoyed last season so I’m just really excited for the upcoming season."

Van den Berg joined Liverpool in the summer of 2019 from PEC Zwolle and has featured four times for Jurgen Klopp ’s first team to date.

However, he was unable to add to that tally last season prior to his move to Preston and will now look to build on his successful stint in the second tier before returning to Anfield.
