Liverpool defender Neco Williams on 'day he'll remember for rest of life' after sealing Wales victory

Liverpool defender Neco Williams has reacted to the 'surreal' feeling of scoring his first goal for Wales.

Having made his senior international debut in Thursday's 1-0 win in Finland, Williams emerged from the bench in the 65th minute of Sunday's clash with Bulgaria in Cardiff.

A disappointing match had seemingly been heading for a goalless draw until Williams found himself on the end of a cross from namesake Jonny Williams to head the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage-time.

The 19-year-old, who made 11 appearances for Liverpool last season including six showings in the Premier League, started for Jurgen Klopp's side in their Community Shield penalty defeat to Arsenal.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold will, of course, be Liverpool's first choice at right-back, Williams impressive performance highlighted the depth the Reds' academy can offer this season.

Williams reflected on scoring his first goal and making his debut for Wales in a whirlwind week for the teenager.

"I can't really sum it up at the minute but before the goal, we must have made about 25 passes," he told Sky Sports.

"The build-up to it was the main thing and to finish it off and score my first goal for my country is a proud moment for me, my family and a day I'll remember for the rest of my life.

"It's just happened so quick, making my debut then scoring my first goal for my country. When you're a kid you always dream of playing for your country, to get the opportunity and to do what I'm doing now is surreal.

"If I keep working hard, keep showing the gaffer what I can do then hopefully I'll get more chances and score more goals.

"Being part of this team is like a family, all the boys are so close together and they help the young lads, especially the more experienced lads.

"The talent we have around this team is unbelievable. For a younger player to come and get that opportunity is a great feeling and we have to thank the gaffer for that opportunity."
