Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren emerges as transfer target for Italian giants

Dejan Lovren has emerged as a summer target for Roma, Napoli and AC Milan.

Liverpool defender Lovren, 29, is on the lists of both Roma and Napoli amid interest in their own defenders.

Roma are lining up the Croatian in case they lose Kostas Manolas while Napoli are considering possible replacements for Kalidou Koulibaly.

San Siro giants Milan are also weighing up a move for Lovren who has had a mixed season since helping Croatia to last summer’s World Cup final.

Lovren joined Liverpool in 2014 from Southampton and his current deal, which includes an option of an extra year, runs until 2021.

Lovren has slipped down the pecking order this term with Joe Gomez emerging as Jurgen Klopp's first-choice partner for Virgil van Dijk.

An injury to Gomez opened the door for Lovren but he suffered a setback of his own in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves in January.

The Croatian has returned to the squad in recent weeks but has been made to wait with Joel Matip impressing for the Reds.

Gomez is also closing in on a return having returned to full training at Melwood this week.

“It is nice – Joe is not injured anymore and nearly fit," Liverpool boss Klopp said earlier this week.

“After a long time, I think Joe was out for 15 weeks, that is long, so he needs to now create the basis again for the rest of the season.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to be back in full training next week.

Liverpool face arguably the toughest game of their title run-in when they welcome Tottenham to Anfield this weekend.
