Liverpool defender Andy Robertson makes bold Manchester City title race statement

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson believes whatever team finishes above Manchester City will win the Premier League title this season.

Robertson played a key part during Liverpool's win against the Blues on Sunday, picking out Mohamed Salah for the second goal of the game.

Defeat for City meant Pep Guardiola's men slipped nine points behind the league leaders and dropped to fourth in the table, behind both Leicester and Chelsea.

Robertson believes the title race will be contested by more teams that last year but is backing City to climb up the standings. The Scot claimed whichever team could better the Citizens in the table would be crowned champions.

Questioned on the win over City, he told the official Liverpool website: "Massive for us. A big game against our closest rivals from last year.

"Both of us were in a league of their own last year and it looks as if there's going to be a couple of others sniffing about this year.

"But I still believe if you finish above Man City then I think you'll get the title.

"It's a massive win for us and it's just another one that we've got to tick off.

"There's still a long, long way to go, but it's always nice to beat your rivals."
