Liverpool defender Andy Robertson believed to be behind major foodbank donations

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is believed to have made a major donation to help six foodbanks in Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Robertson has been involved in the foodbank initiative on Merseyside during his time at Anfield, and last week made a donation to the Back Onside mental health charity in Glasgow.

And the Sunday Times have reported it is understood the left-back has been similarly charitable in his native Scotland.

Glasgow NE Foodbank, a project based near Celtic’s home stadium Celtic Park where Robertson began his career, has provided more than 53,000 meals for locals.

In a tweet, the foodbank said: “Thanks to the Scottish footballer who donated a large sum to the food banks, including us. Without the support of generous individuals we would struggle.”

The other foodbanks to receive support from Robertson are Glasgow SW Foodbank, Glasgow NW Foodbank, Glasgow SE Foodbank, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank and East Renfrewshire Foodbank.
