Liverpool defence 'a cause for concern' as warning issued ahead of West Ham Premier League clash

Didi Hamann reveals his concerns over his former Liverpool side conceding goals and not defending well as a team.

The Champions League -winning midfielder made 191 appearances for the Reds during a six-year spell on Merseyside.

Liverpool are at the top of the scoring charts in the Premier League, but have been leaking goals of late and recently allowed a two-goal lead to slip in last weekends draw with Brighton at Anfield.

The Reds are currently second in the table - three points off leaders Chelsea - but draws with Brentford and Brighton has seen four points dropped.

“It's a concern for sure, as good as they are going forward when they won the Champions League and Premier League the defence was the best organised and meanest in Europe,” said Hamann in an interview with FreeSuperTips .

“The way they conceded the second goal against Brighton was far too easy, the ball was passed three times and in the back of the net.

“Atletico were unlucky not to win the game after going two goals down and they should have been winning at half-time.

“They wouldn't have lost that game if it wasn't for the red card and there was the Brentford game as well, they're leaking goals at the minute.

"I just feel that the whole team isn't defending well, maybe having Fabinho back will help because he's that guy who gives the team balance.

“But they are conceding goals far too easily at the moment.”

Liverpool are 25 matches unbeaten, but the leaking of goals will be a concern as the Reds can’t keep relying on the qualities of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to keep bailing them out.

With a trip to the London Stadium coming up on Sunday evening against an in-form West Ham side, Liverpool will need to be back to their best defensively if they are to keep the pace with Chelsea.
