Liverpool face injury concern as Andy Robertson misses Scotland Euro 2020 qualifier

Liverpool have been dealt a blow after Andy Robertson missed Scotland's Euro 2020 qualifier with Belgium with a hamstring injury.

The Tartan Army captain had been expected to start and had been on pre-match press duties for the game after scoring in Scotland's 2-1 victory over Cyprus on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, manager Steve Clarke explained the 25-year-old's absence to Sky Sports.

"It's disappointing to lose someone of Andy's experience - certainly for a game like this," he said.

"He tried everything he could [to be ready for today], he did the training session last night, but he woke up and still felt it so no good."

Scotland lost 3-0 in Robertson 's absence as a Romelu Lukaku brace and late Kevin De Bruyne strike inflicted a first defeat on Clarke.

The Scot isn't the first Liverpool star to pick up an injury during the June international break with Xherdan Shaqiri limping off in Switzerland's Nations League third-place play-off defeat against England.

Meanwhile, Robertson had to be nursed through the end of the season after limping off in the Reds' famous 4-0 victory over Barcelona with a calf injury last month.

And while the severity of his injury is unknown, it leaves Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp 's need for a new left-back even greater with Alberto Moreno leaving the club at the end of his contract later this month.
