Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of their record signing Alexander Isak, fearing that the Swede could have suffered a broken leg against Tottenham.
The striker was introduced as a substitute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Reds’ 2-1 win, scoring the opener, but he was forced off hurt in the second half.
Now, Arne Slot’s worst fears may be realised, with the former Newcastle forward awaiting the results of an MRI scan on his lower left leg.
According to a report in The Athletic, it is suspected the Swede may have sustained a fracture to his left leg, which would require a matter of months on the sidelines.
It is believed that Liverpool are particularly worried about the 26-year-old’s condition, who has already endured a troubled start to his career on Merseyside with injury and a lack of form.
Isak was injured after a challenge by Micky van de Ven, who slid and caught the striker as he let fly to give the visitors the lead in north London.
The Sweden international had been on the pitch for just 11 minutes since being introduced at half time, with Slot admitting post-match that the injury was “not a good thing”.
"If a player doesn't even try to come back, that is usually not a good thing but I cannot say anything more than that,” the Liverpool boss said.
"That is just gut feeling and nothing medical...let's not be too negative yet. We don't know yet. Let's hope he is back with us soon."
Isak has played 16 times since a £125million move from Newcastle in the summer, but he has started just six times in the league.
