Liverpool crowned Premier League champions as Manchester City lose to hand Andy Robertson winner's medal

Liverpool have been crowned champions of England for the first time in 30 years after Chelsea beat Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool had thumped Crystal Palace on Wednesday night to take them within touching distance of the trophy.

City had to beat Chelsea to keep the league going for another 10 days at least before they faced Liverpool on July 2.

But they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea with Fernandinho sent off for a deliberate handball late on.

It means that Jurgen Klopp's men have won the title for the first time since 1990 and Andy Robertson becomes the fifth Scot to win the English Premier League as a player.

Chelsea had taken the lead early on after a huge mistake from Benjamin Mendy allowed Christian Pulisic to sprint through and finish.

Kevin de Bruyne had got City back on level terms with a stunning free kick before it was turned on it's head again when VAR overturned a decision not to give a penalty.

It was a blatant handball from Fernandinho and Willian dispatched after his compatriot was shown a red card.

Liverpool remain 23 points clear with just seven games left for both sides and will lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield next month.

They win the league earlier than any other club with seven games to spare, but also later than anyone else by winning it in June.
