Liverpool count cost of injury crisis but Manchester United players prove it can be done

Andy Robertson has played more minutes of football than almost any other Premier League player this season.

The Liverpool and Scotland left-back has competed in 3,388 minutes of action across all competitions for the Reds this term, according to figures taken from fbref.com.

That’s the fifth highest total of any top flight outfield player.

And as we watch on during the international break, the ECHO has compiled a list of the players to have played the most minutes for their respective clubs this season.

Mohamed Salah (3,284 minutes) and Georginio Wijnaldum (3,138 minutes) are both included inside the top 10 while Sadio Mane (2,934 minutes) makes the top 20.

All four players have been called up to represent their country during this international break, with Robertson, Salah and Wijnaldum all already having played the full 90 minutes in their respective clashes for Scotland, Egypt and Holland while Mane is set to play against Congo on Friday afternoon too.

Jurgen Klopp's selection has been somewhat forced with all four players this season, Robertson having to play relentlessly due to back-up Kostas Tsimikas suffering with injury and Wijnaldum almost being an ever-present in midfield due to injuries in the backline and in the centre of the park too.

Diogo Jota's issue saw the Reds more or less unable to rotate the likes of Salah and Mane, with all four players mentioned having competed at the very top of their game under mental and physical duress for the best part of four seasons at Anfield - clearly showing fatigue was almost inevitable and the cost of injuries counting.

However, the three players to have played the most minutes for their club in all competitions this season play for Manchester United.

Harry Maguire has played more minutes of club football than anyone else this season - 3,946 in total. He’s followed by Aaron Wan-Bissaka with 3,647 minutes and Bruno Fernandes, is third on the list, having played 3,483 minutes of football during this campaign so far.

Wan-Bissaka is one of just two players in the top 20 who won’t be representing their country over the next two weeks. The other is Son Heung-min (2,952 minutes) who was called up but had to withdraw.

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans is fourth on the list with 3,444 minutes under his belt.

Marcus Rashford (3,323 minutes), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (3,281 minutes) and Ruben Dias (3,250 minutes) complete the top 10 alongside the three aforementioned Liverpool stars.
