A Liverpool Council worker and another man were arrested during a raid on a plush city centre apartment.
Officers could be seen outside Beetham Plaza on The Strand , across the road from the Cunard Building, on Wednesday afternoon.
Matrix police vans were parked on Brunswick Street before Merseyside Police confirmed that two people had been arrested for a range of fraud, bribery , corruption and misconduct offences.
A 32-year-old man, from Liverpool city centre, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, bribery and corruption.
During the raid, a 50-year-old man who is employed by Liverpool City Council was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and misconduct in a public office.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "Detectives have arrested two men on suspicion of fraud as part of an ongoing investigation.
"The arrests took place earlier today (Wednesday 18th December 2019).
"A 32-year-old man from Liverpool city centre has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, bribery and corruption.
"Whilst a 50-year-old man, employed by Liverpool City Council, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and misconduct in public office."
