Liverpool Council tax rises by 4.99 per cent as budget approved

At least two of Liverpool’s One Stop Shops have had their immediate future secured after city councillors passed Labour’s budget proposals.

The potential closure of all eight One Stop Shops, which provide a range of services, had proved one of the most controversial proposals in the budget.

It was later scaled back so that two of the shops will remain and there will be a service visiting different parts of the city on regular dates as part of a permanent program.

The budget also included £15m of savings across the council and a 4.99% hike in council tax rates.

Acting mayor Wendy Simon thanked One Stop Shop staff for their contributions to consultation over the future of the service and said it would leave it in a better position.

She said: “This is a service review looking at how we can best serve the city. It is going to be bigger than it was before .

“The service was 20 days in the previous plan. It is now 30 days and those days will be permanent days. They are regular days, in the same time and same place, wherever that may be.

“Those plans will be finalised in the coming weeks and I thank the unions and all the staff for their support.”

Old Swan councillor William Shortall, who has been involved in the consultation process, also sought to reassure councillors that the service was not being reduced.

The One Stop Shops provide a range of services, with eight shops located in the city centre, Dingle, Old Swan, Norris Green, Kirkdale, Wavertree, Garston and Speke.
