Liverpool could restrict key quartet's international involvement to avoid Leeds United absences

Liverpool could be boosted by the availability of several key players who were previously expected to be absent for the trip to Leeds United on September 12.

The upcoming international break has posed a dilemma to Premier League clubs, many of whom have several players who represent their country and will be flying all over the world.

Liverpool trio Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino have all been called up to the Brazil squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers while Mohamed Salah has been selected by Egypt.

Brazil and Egypt are both on the UK government's red list, meaning anyone arriving from the country must quarantine in a hotel for 10 days.

This scenario could rule all four out of the visit to Leeds and would also cause them to miss out on Liverpool's first Champions League group game and their clash with Crystal Palace.

Leeds have the same problem to a lesser extent, as winger Raphinha has been called up to the Brazil squad and quarantine rules would also see him miss out on meeting of the two sides.

However, clubs across Europe will refuse to allow players to join up with their international sides next week if they have to quarantine upon their return, following the establishment of a collective position by the European Club Association.

Liverpool are members of the ECA and look set to take a defiant stance, although the Reds have informed the Egyptian FA that Salah could play in Egypt's second World Cup qualifier in Gabon as the country is not on the UK government's red list.

If Liverpool successfully blocked their players from leaving for international duty, all four could in theory feature at Elland Road after the break ends.

Leeds are not members of the ECA and it is unclear what their stance will be, but it would be especially difficult for the Whites to hold Raphinha back considering he could win his first international cap.
