Liverpool could pay record-breaking tribunal fee to Fulham for Harvey Elliott

Liverpool could pay a record-breaking tribunal fee for youngster Harvey Elliott following his switch from Fulham.

Elliott, 16, completed the move to Anfield on Sunday after allowing his contract at Craven Cottage to run down.

As Elliott is under the age of 24, Fulham are entitled to a fee for his development, which will now be determined by the Professional Football Compensation Committee.

The Reds were forced to pay the highest fee ever via tribunal after they signed Danny Ings from Burnley in 2015, in a deal that totalled £8 million, as well as a 20% sell on clause.

But the Evening Standard report that Fulham are hopeful the fee for highly-rated Elliott will shatter that record and surpass £10 million.

Elliott rejected the offer of a scholarship at the Cottagers despite making his first-team debut for the club as a 15-year-old in an EFL Cup clash against Millwall last year.

He then became the youngest ever Premier League player in May's defeat to Wolves at the age of 16 years and 30 days, and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has since claimed he could have moved anywhere.

A number of clubs were reportedly interested in Elliott's services, with Liverpool said to have pipped Barcelona , Real Madrid , PSG and RB Liepzig to his signature.

Elliott was thrown straight into first-team action during the Reds pre-season campaign, coming off the bench to feature in the last 15 minutes of the friendly defeat to Napoli.

Klopp said: "I could say so many positive things about the boy.

"We signed him, he came here, he decided on us and could have gone pretty much everywhere but he wanted to be part of Liverpool.

"The stories with the boy start early and already he is the youngest ever Premier League player and has broken quite a few records because of his talent.

"Now he is here so let’s work with him. He needs game time, we will see where he gets that but he is obviously a fine, fine footballer and that’s why we were really interested in signing him."
