Liverpool could lose four key players as Ben Davies breaks silence on transfer exit

Liverpool could lose four key players next month after FIFA rule change

Four of Liverpool's key players could be out of action next month in a 'worst case scenario' after a FIFA rule change.

Previous rules as a result of the pandemic meant clubs could prevent players from being released from international duty due to travel restrictions.

The temporary rule ended earlier this year and the international break next month could hand Jurgen Klopp a major selection headache.

Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Mohamed Salah could all be unavailable for the Reds' trip to Leeds United as their respective World Cup qualifiers are set to take place in countries currently on the UK government's red list.

Current rules mean the players would have to isolate for 10 days upon their return.

Liverpool defender Ben Davies has officially joined Sheffield United on loan just over six months since his arrival at Anfield.

Davies was a last minute signing for the Reds in the January transfer window after Joel Matip was added to their extensive long-term injury list last season.

Davies has spoken on his time at Liverpool, telling the Sheffield United club website: “It (joining Liverpool) was a move that you could never turn down, it was really exciting.

“So I’ve had a good six months or so, but playing football is the most important thing to any footballer."

The 26-year-old was wanted by Celtic ahead of his move to Liverpool and the Scottish side were among a number clubs interested in signing Davies this summer.

Bournemouth and Burnley were also credited with interest, but the Blades won the race to land the player.
