Liverpool could face Timo Werner transfer race over release clause deadline

Liverpool reportedly only have until the end of April to take advantage of Timo Werner's release clause.

The Mirror say that the Reds are serious about making a move for the RB Leipzig striker and even made contact with his club in the January transfer window.

Werner is believed to have a release clause set between £50million to £55million depending on Leipzig's success which it is claimed that Liverpool have come close to triggering.

However, German publication Bild now say that Anfield chiefs could be rushed into a move as the clause expires at the end of April.

Werner, who turns 24 next month, has netted 20 goals in 21 Bundesliga games so far this season.

He has been linked with a potential move to Liverpool for a long time and European football observer Kevin Hatchard reckons that the player would be eager to join the Champions League holders and runaway Premier League leaders.

He told Hawskbee and Jacobs on talkSPORT: “He has said on numerous occasions he thinks the Premier League is an exciting prospect and some pretty reliable German media sources are saying that Liverpool are very much one of the clubs who want to sign him and he is keen.

“Now he was very strongly linked with Bayern for a long time, that seems to have gone away.

“He didn’t push for a move to Bayern and Bayern seemed to have lost interest.

“So I think Liverpool certainly would be very, very prominent in that race to sign him.”
