Liverpool 'could double their money' in Xherdan Shaqiri summer transfer

Sevilla are reportedly ready to test Liverpool's resolve this summer with a £28million offer Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss attacker has struggled to break into the first team of Jurgen Klopp's side since his £13.5m move from Stoke City in 2018, and now he has caught the attention of a number of clubs, with Sevilla reported to be leading the race to sign the 28-year-old.

The La Liga side are willing to fork out £28million for Shaqiri's services, according to Football Insider, despite his current deal at Anfield tying him down until 2023.

The form of attacking trio Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have kept the former Bayern Munich ace out of the starting line-up, having made just six appearances for the Reds so far this season.

Klopp said in January: "The majority of December and January we had a bench full of kids - wonderful kids, but kids.

"So how could we think about giving a player to anybody? I don't understand that.

"It's not about Shaq or whatever, it's about pretty much everybody that we just have to keep them for sorting our situation and not the situation for different clubs."

Shaqiri had expressed his sadness at his lack of game time last season, saying: "I'm disappointed that I do not play anymore. Nobody likes to sit on the bench.

"It's clear that I want more time. I have to look at the situation and find a solution."

Shaqiri has enjoyed a relatively fruitful time in England since arriving from Inter Milan to the Potters in 2015 for around £12million.

He scored 15 times in 92 games but has since failed to make the same impact at Merseyside, owing to his lack of game time.

Shaqiri has scored seven times for the Reds, appearing 40 times across all competitions so far.
