Liverpool could benefit from £52m price slash with winger 'open' to transfer

Liverpool have been tipped to revive their interest in Federico Chiesa when the market reopens.

Having shelved initial plans to target Real Madrid-bound England sensation Jude Bellingham this summer - due to the vast financial costs involved - Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team quickly made their mark after the season finished by signing Alexis Mac Allister for an undisclosed fee. Further recruits are expected to follow with a defined focus on midfield additions to offset James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain departing.

However, while that remains the priority, Liverpool could also strengthen in other areas as Juventus winger Chiesa returns to their radar. He could be available for a cut-price £38m this summer.

Liverpool were linked to the 25-year-old shortly after he helped Italy win the delayed Euro 2020 championships 24 months ago, but the 40-cap international opted to stay put in Serie A at that juncture. Chiesa is reportedly open to a move now, though, as per reports from Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.

According to the article, Chiesa - who progressed through the Fiorentina system - is open to leaving after a stop-start campaign in which he started only 11 games in all competitions. He did not feature at all until November after suffering a serious knee ligament injury last season.

Back on the pitch, he scored four goals and provided six assists in those matches as Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Saudi-backed Newcastle United seemingly compete for his signature. A fee around £38m has been mooted despite his value sitting at £80m-£90m two years ago.

Bayern are claimed to have already opened up discussions with his representatives. As per the Corriere dello Sport article, demand for Chiesa has markedly reduced since 2021.
