The current coronavirus infection rate in Liverpool has risen to 171.5 cases per 100,000, according to the latest figures.
It comes as the UK's coronavirus death toll passed a grim milestone of 70,000, with 570 more deaths recorded in England on Christmas Day, bringing the total to 70,195.
There have been another 32,725 cases of coronavirus reported in the UK in the most recent 24-hour period, with a new mutant strain of the virus sweeping across the country.
Liverpool brought its infection rate down from more than 700 cases per 100,000 people in October to under 100 earlier this month, but recent days have seen the level shoot up again.

A total of 854 people tested positive for the Covid-19 in Liverpool in the week up to December 20, giving a weekly rate of 171.5 cases per 100,000.
This compares to a total of 497 positive coronavirus cases in the week up to December 13, and a weekly rate of 99.8 per 100,000.

After a long period of falling infection numbers, Wirral has recorded 491 cases in the week up to December 20, at a rate of 151.5 per 100,000.
During the same seven day period Knowsley recorded 227 cases, at a rate of 150.5 per 100,000.
Meanwhile, Sefton recorded 375 cases, at a rate of 135.7 per 100,000.

In Leeds in the week up to December 20, 1,240 cases were recorded, with a rate of 156.3 per 100,000.
This compares to 1,082 cases of Covid-19 and a rate of 195.7 per 100,000 in Manchester.
In Birmingham, 3,349 cases at a rate of 293.3 per 100,000 were recorded during the same seven day period up to December 20.
