Liverpool are considering Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis to provide competition for Andy Robertson at left-back.
The Premier League champions are willing to pay around £10m to bolster that area of the squad, but are not the only club to show interest in Lewis following the relegation of Daniel Farke’s side.
The Merseysiders are, however, understood to be most advanced in negotiations at present.
The 22-year-old is represented by PLG, who also manage Robertson and fellow Anfield fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold, giving Liverpool an advantage in negotiations.
Strong in the dribble and with an impressive passing range, the Northern Ireland international can also operate on the left of midfield.
Jurgen Klopp believes the player has great room for development and can thrive working with two of the current best full-backs in the game.
Lewis is seen as having an elite attitude already and would relish contesting the role with Robertson.
An added benefit is the defender’s homegrown status, which makes him more valuable in the context of the Brexit changes that will be enforced.
Lewis won’t be short of offers though and may plump for greater game time elsewhere if it still serves his long-term advancement.
He flew home from Mykonos over the weekend to be in prime condition for a transfer – whether that is to Anfield or another top-flight club.
Liverpool are understood to have a shortlist of four candidates for the position, which also features Olympiakos’ Kostas Tsimikas.
