Liverpool confirm they will wear Gold FIFA Champions badge against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Liverpool have confirmed that they will wear the Gold FIFA Champions badge against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Reds were crowned world champions of club football for the first time last weekend when they defeated Brazilian side Flamengo 1-0 after extra time in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in Doha.

Liverpool are only the second English club to lift the trophy following Manchester United in 2008 but back then the Premier League refused to allow them to sport the badge in their competition.

The Premier League usually deny requests to make alterations to a team's kit during the season, other than for charitable purposes.

However, the Reds are understood to have made a request to the English top-flight to be allowed to wear the badge in their first home game since their return from Qatar and are thought to have stressed to the Premier League that wearing it would reflect well on the division as a whole.

Liverpool will also wear the badge for the remainder of their Champions League campaign, which resumes against Atletico Madrid in February.

The badge includes a graphic of the FIFA Club World Cup trophy set upon a gold-coloured background, measures 78 millimetres by 57 millimetres in size and will be placed in the centre of the chest area of the shirt in between the club's Liver Bird crest and New Balance kit manufacturers logo.

A FIFA spokesperson told Liverpoolfc.com : “As per the usage guidelines, the winning team can wear the FIFA World Champions Badge from the day it becomes champions up to and including the final of the next edition of the tournament.”
