Liverpool Confirm Shock Mohamed Salah Exit at End of 2025–26 Season

Liverpool announced club legend Mohamed Salah will bid farewell to Anfield at the end of the 2025–26 season.

The Egyptian international, who signed a two-year contract extension last season, will not see through his deal after a trying campaign in a red shirt, which even saw him briefly dropped.

“Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” Liverpool shared on Tuesday evening.

“The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”

The Reds confirmed Salah wished to make the announcement to the supporters at the “earliest possible opportunity” to provide transparency on his future as rumors continued to swirl about a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.

The 33-year-old forward will leave Liverpool as one of the greatest players in club history. Salah helped the Reds win two Premier League titles and the Champions League, along with six other honors.

To date, he has tallied 255 goals in 435 appearances and currently sits third on Liverpool’s all-time list of goalscorers. Salah is also the reigning PFA Player of the Year, having picked up the award in August for a record third time.

So far, it’s been a season to forget for Salah. The forward, who joined the club from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, has failed to live up to the lofty standards of his previous campaigns in a red shirt.

A public falling out with manager Arne Slot back in December and a lack of production on the pitch have combined to stain what is now confirmed to be Salah’s final season at Liverpool. After winning the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions, the forward has only managed 10 goals in 34 appearances this season.

There was even a growing sentiment that teenage starlet Rio Ngumoha should replace Salah in the XI amid the Reds’ struggles this season, headlined by their woeful Premier League title defense. The 20-time English champions are fifth in the table and barely clinging onto Champions League qualification.

Yet Salah’s ups and downs in 2025–26 do not define his impact at Anfield. The Egypt international is already regarded as a club legend, and his legacy will no doubt stand the test of time, especially if he helps Liverpool somehow win the FA Cup or Champions League this season.
