Liverpool confirm plan for Shrewsbury Town press conference with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders absent

Liverpool are planning for their FA Cup third round clash against Shrewsbury Town going ahead - despite the continued absence of boss Jurgen Klopp and assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

The Reds, who are scheduled to host the League One side on Sunday, have arranged their usual pre-match media conference for Saturday at 1pm.

However, with both Klopp and Lijnders having tested positive for coronavirus in the last week, the conference will instead by taken by Peter Krawietz, Liverpool's other assistant manager.

Lijnders took charge of the team in last Sunday's 2-2 Premier League draw at Chelsea after Klopp returned a positive test the previous day.

But the Dutchman has subsequently been one of many players and coaching staff members to contract the virus, an outbreak that prompted the postponement of Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal.

Isolation rules mean Klopp could be back on the touchline for Sunday's visit of Shrewsbury, which FA rules dictate must go ahead even if Liverpool have to play a combination of senior players and Academy youngster.

Until, then, though Krawietz will represent the club by carrying out the regular media duties.

Krawietz worked with Klopp at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund before following him to Liverpool in October 2015. Has has been described by the Reds boss as "the eyes" of his coaching staff.
