Liverpool confirm place at 2019 Fifa Club World Cup in Qatar despite fixture nightmare in December

Liverpool have confirmed they will take part in the 2019 Fifa Club World Cup in Qatar despite concerns over a fixture pile-up in December.

The Reds also confirmed they are taking part in a series of “fact-finding meetings” ahead of the tournament.

Jurgen Klopp’s team, who sit atop the Premier League, could play in the Club World Cup final on December 21 in Doha, before a Premier League game at Leicester on Boxing Day.

A statement read: “Liverpool is to participate in the Fifa Club World Cup, a tournament which brings together teams from six football federations from around the world.

“As part of its preparations, the club is taking part in a series of fact-finding meetings and consultations with various authorities, including FIFA, the Qatar Supreme Committee, the UK Foreign Office and a range of non-governmental organisations.

“The club values and appreciates the input that has been provided by various supporters groups, notably Spirit Of Shankly and Kop Outs, throughout this process and will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure travelling fans are provided with the information they require.

“In keeping with that ongoing commitment, the club will offer updates at the appropriate times and would encourage supporters to monitor official LFC channels.”
