Liverpool have confirmed João Teixeira is to leave the club this summer having agreed a return to Portugal with Porto.

The attacking midfielder, who made seven appearances for Jürgen Klopp’s team last season, rejected the chance to extend his contract at Anfield and will officially join Porto once his current deal expires on 1 July.

Teixeira struggled to secure a regular first-team role at Liverpool following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, having loan spells at Brentford and Brighton.

“Liverpool would like to wish João all the best for his future career with his new club,” the club said in a statement.

Liverpool will receive a training compensation fee set by Fifa for the 23-year-old, understood to be around €300,000.
