Liverpool confirm Harry Wilson transfer stance with Premier League side in talks ahead of deadline day

Harry Wilson's long-term future is set to remain at Liverpool, but the Reds are in talks with Bournemouth over a possible loan deal before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was keen to take a closer look at Wilson this pre-season after an outstanding campaign at Derby County last term when he netted 18 times in all competitions.

Liverpool would have been looking for around £25million for the Wales international had they decided to cash in before deadline day, but Reds boss Klopp wants to keep the versatile attacker at Anfield.

However, the European champions are holding ongoing discussions with Eddie Howe's Cherries over a potential short-term switch to the Vitality Stadium for the upcoming campaign.

The ECHO understands any potential loan deal would not include an obligation to buy with Klopp keen to retain former Under-23 captain Wilson at the club beyond a possible move to the south coast.

It also understood that Wilson himself still sees his own future at Liverpool and any viable loan to Bournemouth would simply be for the forthcoming season.

It would be Wilson's first season in the top flight after previous stints away from Liverpool with Crewe Alexandra, Hull City and Derby.

Klopp stayed in contact with Wilson during the forward's time at the iPro Stadium last season, with the Reds' loan and pathways manager Julian Ward providing regular updates on his progress in the second tier.

It was confirmed at the end of last month that Bournemouth star David Brooks would miss around three months of action with an ankle injury and Cherries boss Howe is keen to bring Wilson down south to replace the 22-year-old temporarily.

Blood Red: Who will break through for Liverpool - Ryan Kent or Harry Wilson?

A potential issue to be resolved between the clubs is likely to centre around guarantees of playing time, with Liverpool known for ensuring their loanees are given ample opportunity to make the most of their spells away from their parent club.

Liverpool fielded several inquiries over the availability of the Welshman across the course of the summer window, but Klopp wanted to run the rule over Wilson before making a decision on his future.

A long-term decision has now been made, but a possible departure for Wilson could be in the pipeline before the August 8 deadline.

Wilson caught the eye during Liverpool's pre-season with two goals against Borussia Dortmund in America and Lyon in Geneva last week.

Wilson's first against Dortmund was a smartly-taken finish in a 3-2 defeat at the Notre Dame Stadium before a swerving, long-range strike against Ligue 1 side Lyon on July 31.
