Liverpool confirm double injury blow as strike duo set to miss out

Liverpool have confirmed that Paul Glatzel and Joe Hardy are both set to be sidelined for several weeks after they suffered ankle ligament injuries against Southampton on Saturday.

The Reds moved to the top of Premier League 2 after a hard-earned goalless draw against the Saints on Saturday afternoon at Kirkby.

But the game was overshadowed by injuries to Glatzel and Hardy, both of whom have only recently returned from long-term absences.

Glatzel took a kick to his right ankle during the first half which eventually forced him off at half-time, later leaving on crutches while wearing a leg brace.

While Hardy, who had only been on the pitch a matter of moments as a late substitute when he was caught by a poor challenge from Alexandre Jankewitz.

The forward required lengthy treatment before departing on a stretcher and heading off to hospital for scans on a leg injury.

And now Liverpool have confirmed that the pair will be out of action in for 'several weeks' as they undergo rehabilitation on their injuries.

“Paul Glatzel and Joe Hardy are set to be sidelined for several weeks after suffering ankle ligament injuries,” a statement on the club’s website read.

“Both strikers had to leave the pitch during Liverpool U23s’ goalless draw with Southampton in Premier League 2 last Saturday.

“Subsequent assessments have confirmed ankle ligament injuries for the pair, who will now be out of action in the coming weeks as they undergo rehabilitation.”
