Liverpool have taken their summer spending through the £80million barrier by confirming the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 23-year-old attacker has put pen to paper on a five-year deal after the Premier League and world champions thrashed out a deal worth an initial £41m, which could eventually rise to £45m.
Jurgen Klopp sanctioned the move for Jota after it emerged Wolves were willing to sell the Portugal international.
Liverpool had been keen on Watford winger Ismaila Sarr only for the Hornets to refuse to budge from their asking price in excess of £40m.
Wolves were far more accommodating during negotiations, with the Midlands side happy to accept around £4m as an initial payment across the first 12 months of Jota's contracted Anfield stay.
The forward, who can play down the middle or on the left, scored 44 goals in 133 appearances for Wolves after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2017, first on a season-long loan before making a permanent £12.8m move.
He becomes the fourth most expensive signing in Liverpool's history, behind Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Naby Keita. Jota will wear the number 20 jersey.
Jota's arrival comes barely 24 hours after Thiago Alcantara joined from Bayern Munich for an initial £20m, with Kostas Tsimikas having been Liverpool's first summer signing when moving from Olympiakos for £11.7m.
With Ki-Jana Hoever having earlier on Saturday completed a move to Molineux worth a potential £13.5m, Liverpool have made a net spend of just over £30m over the two deals with Wolves.
