Liverpool confirm absentees for FIFA Club World Cup - and drop major Carabao Cup hint

Gini Wijnaldum has been included in Liverpool's travelling squad for the FIFA Club World Cup - with the Reds dropping a major selection hint ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa.

Wijnaldum was considered a doubt after limping off during the 2-0 Premier League win over Watford on Saturday with what appeared a hamstring problem.

But while the Dutchman was on the flight to Qatar on Sunday, Dejan Lovren has been left behind as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem suffered in midweek at Red Bull Salzburg.

Lovren is one of three players absent from the official 23-man squad Liverpool submitted for the tournament.

Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster will also not make the trip, suggesting they will both be involved in Liverpool's Carabao Cup quarter-final at Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

However, Curtis Jones and Neco Willliams are both in the party for Qatar. Jones made his Premier League debut at Bournemouth last weekend, while Williams was on the bench against Watford.
