Liverpool coach responds to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur links

Liverpool throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark has responded to suggestions he could start working with Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur.

Gronnemark has been employed on a freelance basis by the Reds for more than 18 months having been appointed by Jurgen Klopp.

While suspicion has been raised elsewhere, not least by former Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray, the Dane's work has been lauded by the Reds boss and several of his players.

However, Gronnemark caused a minor stir with comments during an interview with German football magazine Kicker on Friday.

"I don't know, maybe I'll be with Tottenham or Manchester United next year, as I'm not tied down as a freelancer," he said. “I’m just not allowed to be a direct competitor in any one season, that’s my rule."

That prompted fevered discussion Gronnemark may be switching to one of Liverpool's Premier League rivals next season.

But he has since taken to social media to clarify his position.

Gronnemark said on Twitter: "Just to put everything straight! I'm a freelancer. I make new contracts every summer.

"The mentioned clubs are just random to explain my position as a freelancer. I'm very happy at Liverpool FC. Let's see what the future brings. Stay safe."
