Liverpool close in on deal to sign Ozan Kabak from Schalke

Liverpool are poised to seal a double deadline day swoop for Ozan Kabak of Schalke and Ben Davies from Preston.

The Reds are understood to be closing in on a deal for Kabak, 20, to bolster their backline.

Liverpool will pay a loan fee of around £1m for his services for the rest of the season.

A potential further £500,000 in extras rests on appearances and performance in the Champions League.

Liverpool will then have an option to buy Kabak at the end of the loan, with a price set at £18m plus add-ons.

The ECHO understands that element does not need to be activated until June - giving Jurgen Klopp and his staff plenty of time over the next few months to make a decision on Kabak.

It is understood that Kabak came strongly recommended to Jurgen Klopp by his good friend - and former Schalke boss - David Wagner.

There were also glowing reviews from Christian Heidel, who has been a key figure at both Schalke and Mainz in Germany.

Liverpool will now be able to watch Kabak at close quarters, to see if he can live up to the recommendations before they decide whether to make the move permanent in summer.

A deal is also expected to be done for Davies before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Liverpool will pay just £500,000 up front for the 25-year-old, with an additional £1.1m in add-ons that are understood to include an England international cap clause.
