Liverpool clinch transfer deal for Polish goalkeeper after beating competition from Manchester United and Juventus

Liverpool are closing in on a £200,000 deal for highly-rated young Polish goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski.

The 16-year-old shot-stopper will make the move from Legia Warsaw this summer after the Reds won the race for his signature.

The Poland Under-16s international had also attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Valencia and Juventus.

Ojrzynski will start life at the Kirkby Academy with Barry Lewtas' FA Youth Cup-winning under-18s squad when pre-season training starts in early July.

The teenager previously had a trial at Liverpool when he was given the opportunity to train with the first-team squad at Melwood with Jurgen Klopp watching on.

Ojrzynski will join fellow countryman Kamil Grabara at Liverpool. The 20-year-old keeper, who has been with the Reds since 2016, spent the second half of this season on loan at Danish outfit AGF Aarhus.

Both of them will be gunning to follow in the footsteps of Kop legend Jerzy Dudek. The former Polish keeper helped Liverpool clinch Champions League glory with his heroics in Istanbul back in 2005.

Liverpool Under-18s have been in need of extra competition for Czech stopper Vitezslav Jaros, who enjoyed an impressive season between the posts.

When an ankle injury forced Jaros to miss the FA Youth Cup semi-final tie against Watford, the Reds had to sign Fulham's Luca Ashby-Hammond on an emergency loan.

Jaros returned to action in time for the final as the Reds ended the club's 12-year wait to lift the trophy with a dramatic win over Manchester City on penalties.
