Liverpool clash with Leipzig in Champions League at Anfield under threat

Liverpool may have to play the second leg of their Champions League tie against RB Leipzig away from Anfield as coronavirus restrictions continue to disrupt their campaign.

The Reds have already seen next Tuesday's round of 16 first leg moved to Budapest after being barred from entering Germany by country's authorities.

And there is now an increasing likelihood Liverpool will also have to play the return match, which is due to take place on March 10, at a neutral venue.

Leipzig have been told by the German government they would need to quarantine on their return should the game take place in England, indicating the Bundesliga side would be unable to travel to Merseyside.

Liverpool are looking into possible alternative venues for the second leg, with the German government reviewing their coronavirus advice on March 5.

A statement from UEFA said: “UEFA is in touch with the respective clubs, the English Football Association and the German Football Association.”

Liverpool are not the only club whose plans have been affected by fears over the spread of coronavirus mutations across Europe.

Manchester City and Chelsea have already seen their Champions League games switched from Germany and Spain while Manchester United's Europa League tie against Real Socieded has also been moved.
