Liverpool City Region reports 10,000 more Covid infections

The Liverpool City Region recorded a rapid rise in Covid infections, with 10,000 more positive tests reported in just a week.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, there were 21,672 positive covid infections in the seven days ending December 26 in the Liverpool City Region - that's 10,612 more positive tests than the previous seven days.

This meant that Liverpool City Region's week-on-week percentage change figure was an increase of 96%.

All six areas of the city region recorded huge increases in covid infections. The week-on-week percentage change figures increased by: 129% in Knowsley; 75% in Liverpool; 88% in Halton; 142% in St Helens; 106% in Sefton; and, 90% in Wirral.

West Lancashire, Warrington, and Cheshire West and Chester all had exponential increases in infections. Of these three local government areas, West Lancs had the biggest week-on-week percentage change figure rise of 152%.

England recorded a rise in cases in the week ending December 26. The country recorded 711,183 coronavirus cases, which is 160,289 more cases than in the previous seven days.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 6,843 cases in the week ending December 26, which is 2,939 more cases than in the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 75%.

The latest infection rate was 1,367.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 1,840 positive tests over the last week, which is 862 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 88% in Halton in the week ending December 26.

The latest infection rate is 1,418.0 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 2,647 cases in the week ending December 26, which is 1,552 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 1461.7 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 142%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 2,243 cases in the week ending December 26, which is 1,265 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 1,471.3 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 129%.

Wirral

There were 4,359 positive tests in the week ending December 26, which is 2,067 more cases than in the previous week.

Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 90%. The latest infection rate was 1,344.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 3,740 cases in the week ending December 26, which is a 1,927 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1355.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 106% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 21,672 positive tests over in the week ending December 26, which is 10,612 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 96%. The latest infection rate is 1272.77 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 1,643 coronavirus cases in the week ending December 26, which is 992 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 152%. The infection rate was 1,434.98 per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 3,223 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 26, which is 1,346 more cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 72%. There was an infection rate of 1,539.18 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 4,631 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 26, which is 1,889 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1,346.91 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 69% in cases.

England

In the week ending December 26, England recorded 711,183 coronavirus cases, which is 160,289 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 29% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 1,257.62 per 100,000 people.
