Merseyside Police confirmed they had closed the road because of an RTC, that is believed to have occured around 6pm.

The police tweeted: " ROAD CLOSURE - Motorists please be aware of road closures due to an RTC on Renshaw Street #Liverpool the road is currently closed to traffic.

"Please avoid the area and plan your journeys accordingly. #DriveSafe ."

Many buses run down Renshaw Street and Merseytravel have also tweeted saying passengers should expect delays.

They tweeted: "Owing to a road traffic collision on Renshaw St. All bus services in this area are subject to diversion & delays in both directions."

Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
