Liverpool city centre car park where the most parking fines were issued

The Liverpool car park were drivers received the most fines has been revealed.

A new parking ticket index has found that Mount Pleasant car park in the city centre is where the most fines were issued to drivers in 2019.

The index, created by Able Systems, found that 103,396 parking fines were issued in Liverpool, with a single person receiving 149 tickets in a year.

Data for parking fines for 2020 is not yet available and is likely to be significantly lower because of the coronavirus pandemic and ensuing lockdowns.

During a period in 2020, Mount Pleasant car park was used for free parking for NHS staff.

However, Laura Newton, a partner at law firm Smith Bowyer Clarke, said people needed to be aware of laws around parking fines as lockdown eases.

She said: “Never ignore a parking fine if you receive one. Your local council is open to communicating with you, and, if they apply, will consider discretionary reasons or circumstances surrounding your fine.

“Hoping the fine will automatically go away will only make the situation worse. If you do ignore it, it can become enforced by the courts. You can contest the fine as long as you believe you have a genuinely valid reason to do so.”

The number of parking fines handed out by councils has gradually increased in recent years.

In 2019, 103,396 tickets were issued to motorists in Liverpool, placing it in the top 5 cities for the most parking fines in the UK.

The Top 10 cities which racked up the most parking fines were:

1 – Edinburgh – 191,479 parking fines

3 – Birmingham – 145,910

5 – Liverpool – 103,396

6 – Bristol – 101,619
