Liverpool city centre café owner pours heart out announcing closure with 'huge sadness'

A popular Liverpool café has announced it will be closing its doors with "huge sadness".

Gildart Street-based venue Mrs Danvers Café has announced via social media that it will close after Christmas. The café is located in the Port of Liverpool building and is known for serving grazing and buffet platters as well as afternoon teas.

In a statement posted on the café's Twitter page, the business cited the challenges of the pandemic and a reduction in orders as the reasons behind the decision to close. The coming weeks will see the café take its final orders for buffet platters and festive afternoon teas.

The statement read: "I've been quiet for a while. It's been a really tough few years (for us all), more so recently and as much as I've fought hard throughout the pandemic, moved location (I wasn't allowed to open to the public).

"Adapted the business several times. Barely any orders these last few months. The lease not being renewed and no reserves to move to a new location. I've hit a wall. To say I feel low is a massive understatement.

"I know it's not popular if you're not bouncing around being happy and while some of us advocate speaking out when we feel a certain way, the truth is most don't want to know. So it's with huge sadness I'll be closing the business after Christmas.

"I have no idea what's next. The next few weeks I will be taking final orders for festive afternoon teas or buffet platters. Huge thank you to everyone that has supported the business and to those that have reached out, especially to those that have more recently been really really kind."

The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from customers. Jen said: "Oh no! I am so so sorry to hear this, always loved popping in for something to eat, cheered my day up no end! Please don't feel alone, I'm glad you've spoken out, it's only by sharing that people can let you know how much they can help."

Nick wrote: "Sorry to hear this, I know you have put every ounce of passion and hard work into the last few years. Good luck in the future." Phil added: "Well done for trying so hard. Good luck."

Natalie said: "I'm so sorry. I wish you every bit of success and strength through this transition and into the next phase. It takes incredible strength to let people know the truth about how you feel when things aren't going to plan. I hope you are surrounded with love."
