Liverpool city centre bar set for licence review after police concerns

Another Liverpool city centre bar is set to face a review of its alcohol licence after a request from Merseyside Police.

A public notice posted by Liverpool Council confirms that Volume Lounge, Seel Street, will be the subject of a review.

The notice does not include details of the reasons for the review request but said that police had concerns that the bar was undermining crucial goals of the licensing process.

A licence review can result in a range of actions being taken against a premises, up to and including its licence being completely revoked.

That only tends to happen in extreme cases.

The review of Volume Lounge is the latest in a series of reviews into some of Liverpool’s licensed premises, with a city centre off licence also facing a review.

In May, a restaurant in Liverpool city centre lost its licence after the owner was found to have breached lockdown restrictions at his restaurant just months after receiving a covid fine for a separate breach elsewhere.

Just under two weeks before, a pub on East Prescot Road managed to keep its right to sell booze despite a lockdown drinking session which degenerated into a brawl which saw the manager stamp on a taxi driver’s head.

The manager was immediately sacked and the pub’s owners managed to keep its licence.
