Liverpool Christmas weather forecast set to be 'very cold' with snow possible

Liverpool could see a white Christmas this year, with the Met Office forecasting some "very cold" temperatures over the festive period.

The Met Office long range weather forecast for Monday December 21 to Monday January 4 predicts some unsettled and chilly weather for the majority of the UK.

The weather is set to be "changeable" with wintry showers possible.

Under the forecast the North West is set to see drier weather and sunshine, bringing the potential for fog, frost and very cold nights.

The last time Liverpool saw a white Christmas was back in 2010.

The forecast said: "Outbreaks of rain and windy conditions are likely at times, particularly in the east and south, with wintry showers possible on high ground and maybe to lower levels at times.

"The west and northwest is most likely to see drier weather and sunshine, though this may extend to other parts at times. This will bring potential for fog, frost and very cold nights.

"Temperatures are likely to be at or below average for this time of year, though some milder interludes are possible.

"There is a possibility that conditions may become wetter and milder at the start of January."
