One of the longest running chip shops in Liverpool, not only boast a long life span but a huge reputation too.
Steve’s is based in Aigburth on Ashfield Road and has been around for more than 60 years - and now we know why.
Liverpool has no shortage of chippies, but Steve’s manages to draw in customers who drive miles just to try it.
The Aigburth staple has been at the same location since 1964 and is still run by Steve’s family today.
Based just off a main junction - and set in among rows of houses no less - it’s difficult to park outside when you visit Steve’s but the effort is worth it.

Brightly lit with red lettering outside, it feels like the chippy is calling your name as you pass - so we went along to see what all the fuss is about.
Steve’s offers an extensive menu of English and Chinese dishes, along with kebabs and burgers, so it’s a difficult choice customers are presented with upon arrival.
And you do have to go in. Steve’s does not accept online orders or offer delivery, so if you want it you’ll have to make the journey - though you can order over the phone.

The first thing you’ll notice about Steve’s is how impeccably clean it is, there’s no grubby counters or greasy smell about it - an honour to its five star hygiene rating.
The shop is roomy, with plenty of waiting room - which is surely needed for those busy weekend nights - and a separate counter for the kebab section.
Steve’s is open and airy, so you can see exactly how the friendly staff make and handle your food.
If your read the reviews for the chippy the first thing you’ll notice is that the fish and chips are praised always - so what better to try?
As the food is prepared and wrapped up, the staff are quick to chat and ask about your night, placing the wrapped food in front of you along the counter - which makes it super easy to double check your entire order is there.

We ordered the small fish and chips, a fishcake and chips and a portion of fried rice to test the waters.
For £2.90 the fried rice was served in a large portion with plenty of soy sauce, while the £1.40 small chips were more than enough to go around.
The chips were chunky and decidedly not as greasy as expected - and still piping hot after a 20-minute journey home too.
The small fish, which cost £3.50, was crispy and flaky and, despite being a tad bit dry, managed to make me understand why customers rave about the restaurant.
The £1.20 fish cake was cooked to perfection, having been fried and covered just the right amount of salt and vinegar at the counter.
The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable, so much so that we’ve considered making Steve’s our go-to chippy from now on.
